Sodium hypochlorite
Sodium hypochlorite is the sodium salt of hypochlorous acid, with the formula NaOCl. An aqueous solution of hypochlorite has powerful bactericidal activity and an oxidising action.
Ways of using sodium hypochlorite:

1. Disinfection and processing of instruments. Disinfection of premises and equipment.
2. External use (for example, in gynaecology for treating the genital organs or for treating infectious diseases such as chlamydia, trichomoniasis, etc.).
3. Intracavitary.
4. Enteral.
5. Inhalation.
6. Intravenous.
7. Indirect use (an additive for dialysis in "Artificial kidney" machines).
Sodium hypochlorite has a bactericidal and antiviral effect against such dangerous viruses as HIV, rotavirus, herpes virus, hepatitis viruses and others. There are data on the use of sodium hypochlorite for the treatment of viral hepatitis: it has a broad spectrum of antiviral, detoxifying and antioxidant effects.
NaOCl solutions can be used to sterilise certain medical devices, patient care items, tableware, linen, toys, premises, hard furniture and sanitary equipment.
Detoxification of the body using sodium hypochlorite obtained by electrochemical means
The "SAN" Centre for Detoxification and Efferent Therapy performs detoxification of the internal environment of the human body by means of intravenous administration of sodium hypochlorite solution. To obtain sodium hypochlorite, our centre uses the "DEO-01-Medek" electrochemical body detoxification unit ("Medek", Moscow, Russia). The sodium hypochlorite solution is administered intravenously by drip at a concentration of 150 to 600 mg/l, 200 ml daily or 400 ml every other day depending on the severity of the pathological process. The total number of procedures per course of treatment is 5 to 10.

Indications for intravenous injections of sodium hypochlorite:
1. Endogenous intoxication:
- Sepsis and various septic conditions;
- Renal and hepatic failure (impaired kidney or liver function as a result of chronic diseases or chemical poisoning);
- Hyperbilirubinaemia (a bilirubin content in human blood above the norm);
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (a life-threatening condition in which there is not enough glucose in the blood);
- Burn disease;
- Destructive forms of pancreatitis;
- Severe forms of peritonitis;
- Complicated pneumonias.
2. Exogenous intoxication:
Poisoning with barbiturates, carbon monoxide, aniline, cardiac glycosides, ammonia, ketones, acetoacetate, methanol, death cap mushroom and the like.
3. Increased sensitivity to antibiotics.
4. Hypercoagulation syndrome (an increased tendency of the blood to clot).
Results of the use of sodium hypochlorite
The advantages of this method, besides the simplicity and low cost of obtaining the working hypochlorite solution, lie in the practically complete absence of contraindications, complications and negative effects, in the absence of habituation (resistance) on the part of microorganisms, and also in the universality of its action with regard to various endo- and exotoxins.
Clinical testing of the EDO therapy method has shown a practically unlimited possibility of use in medical practice. This is mainly due to its pronounced influence on both general and local homeostasis, connected not only with the detoxifying effect, but also with the improvement of the rheological properties of the blood and with the anti-inflammatory and antihypoxic action on the body, which is accompanied by stabilisation of microcirculation and by analgesia.
